We were delighted to host Prof. David Carslaw (University of York and WSP) for an online workshop on the R openair package and its applications in atmospheric composition data analysis. During the session, Prof. Carslaw introduced participants to the wide range of tools available in openair for exploring, visualising, and interpreting air quality data. He also shared the story behind the package’s development and how it has evolved over the years to meet the needs of the atmospheric science community.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the live coding demonstration, where Prof. Carslaw worked through the code step by step, explaining not only what each line did but also why it was used. His clear and practical demonstration made the session easy to follow, even for participants who were new to R. The workshop was highly interactive, with engaging discussions and questions throughout, and provided attendees with practical skills and greater confidence in using openair for atmospheric data analysis.
